Swim Testing Clinics
Interested to see what level you may be ready for? Come to our swim testing clinic and let our instructors evaluate your swimming techniques and place you accordingly.

NOTE: In order to move onto the next level, students must pass the previous level at the Addison Park District to be evaluated by swim instructors at one of the scheduled swim clinics.

REGISTRATION DEADLINE for swim lessons is 5 DAYS BEFORE the start of the first class. No same day registrations will be taken.

Swim Lessons - Levels 1 - 7

Descriptions/Age Requirements

Just click on a Swim Lesson "Level" below to view all of the program dates and times; as well as online registration links. Recommended ages shown, are used as a general guideline.

Level 1 - Recommended Ages 3-7
The child is introduced to the water focusing on enjoyment and safety. The swimmers will be encouraged to enter the water on their own and move away from the side with basic locomotion and supported floatation skills.

Level 2 - Recommended Ages 4-10
With continued safety issues discussed, this level is designed to progress the swimmer to unsupported floating, gliding and breathing skills. Jumping in 'hands free' and feeling comfortable with the face in the water is recommended as a prerequisite.

Level 3 - Recommended Ages 5 & Up
Rhythmic breathing and improvement of stroke technique for front and back crawl are the focus of this level. Elementary backstroke is introduced. Further safety skills are introduced and gliding is refined.

Level 4 - Recommended Ages 5 & Up
Improving skill competency is emphasized at this level. Deep water work and treading water are introduced as well as endurance. Rhythmic breathing is refined as well as elementary backstroke. Breaststroke is introduced.

Level 5 - Recommended Ages 6 & Up
This level focuses on technical review of front and back crawl and elementary backstroke. Breaststroke is refined. Sidestroke and surface dives are introduced.

Level 6 - Recommended Ages 8 & Up
Flip turns, starts and butterfly introduced. Endurance training and speed are worked on. The main objective of this course is to prepare swimmers for competitive swimming.

Level 7 - Recommended Ages 10 & Up
This level is for the competitive and life time swimmer. The philosophy of fitness is discussed while fine tuning stroke techniques. This level also focuses on preparing the swimmers for lifeguarding.

Addison Park District also offers a Parent Tot Swim class.
