This program aims to promote water safety knowledge and practice, aquatic adjustment
and swimming readiness skills. Emphasis is on the development of a warm and trusting relationship between parents, children and the instructor.

Swim Lessons
Swim GogglesThis program offers six levels of proficiency in swimming technique and water safety. Both children and adults can enjoy a variety of challenging activities. A demonstration of the prerequisite skills satisfies the entry requirements. For more information on swim lessons, please contact (630) 889-2150 or (630) 833-0100.

Descriptions/Age Requirements

these Swim Lesson programs.

Level 1 - Recommended Ages 3-5
The child is introduced to the water focusing on enjoyment and safety. The swimmers will be encouraged to enter the water on their own and move away from the side with basic locomotion and supported floatation skills.

Level 2 - Recommended Ages 5-7
With continued safety issues discussed, this level is designed to progress the swimmer to unsupported floating, gliding and breathing skills. Jumping in 'hands free' and feeling comfortable with the face in the water is recommended as a prerequisite.

Level 3 - Recommended Ages 6-7
Rhythmic breathing and improvement of stroke technique for front and back crawl are the focus of this level. Elementary backstroke is introduced. Further safety skills are introduced and gliding is refined.

Level 4 - Recommended Ages 7-8
Improving skill competency is emphasized at this level. Deep water work and treading water are introduced as well as endurance. Rhythmic breathing is refined as well as elementary backstroke. Breaststroke is introduced.

Level 5 - Recommended Ages 8-10
This level focuses on technical review of front and back crawl and elementary backstroke. Breaststroke is refined. Sidestroke and surface dives are introduced.

Level 6 - Recommended Ages 10-12
Flip turns, starts and butterfly introduced. Endurance training and speed are worked on. The main objective of this course is to prepare swimmers for competitive swimming.

Swim Lesson Rules:

Observation
As a courtesy to the instructors, child member’s parents are not allowed on swimming deck area. Parents are reminded that this is a continuous program and each child will develop at his/her own rate.

Student Instruction
Swim Students need to be 5 minutes early to each class.

Refunds
The Park District policy for lessons does not accept refund, transfers, or letters of credit after the 2nd day of class. . There will be no make-up lessons for cancelled classes.

Inclement Weather
Please note, incase of bad weather, swim lessons will not be cancelled, students will watch a safety video.
